Best Laning/Early Game Items
McGinnis has the highest ammo capacity in the game without items, so start your game with Monster Rounds to guarantee the last hits. Put your turrets in safe places and secure farms to get Extra Charge and Extra Stamina right after that. These items will help you get an extra bar of turret and stamina.
You can get the Sprint Boots if you are looking for gank engagements. Otherwise, get the Spirit Lifesteal and Improved Cooldown early. After that, you will need the Suppressor to make your turrets and ultimate feel stronger.
If you are struggling in the lane, you can get Healing Rite for some extra healing. If you are against a tanky enemy hero, you can opt for a Divine Barrier for some additional bullet and spirit shield.
Best Core/Mid-Game Items
The core items for McGinnis are Mystic Slow and Heroic Aura. Get these items before any other item. These items will help you slow enemy movement and attack, while the aura will be great for pushing down objectives faster. You can get the Enduring Speed first for better movement speed or Rapid Recharge for an extra turret charge.
If you feel the turrets are doing low damage by this point, you can get the Mystic Vulnerability before these two items. Once you have the turret boosting sorted, get Escalating Resilience. This item will help you last longer on the battlefield while the turrets do their magic.
If the enemy team has greater healers like Infernus or Abrams, the Healbane should be a solid item to tackle them. If there is a Wraith or Haze in the enemy team and you take a lot of bullet damage, you can get the Metal Skin to evade them.
Best Late Game Items
Once you are approaching the late game, you must get the Hunter’s Aura and Leech to weaken enemies for turrets. Leech will also help you sustain more in the fights. If you are playing Rat, you can swap the Leech with Superior Cooldown and imbue it on mini turrets to get them faster.
To amp up your spirit power more and have a stronger fire rate, get spiritual overflow right after that. By this time, upgrade your stamina with the Superior Stamina. Want more turrets? Well, you can swap one item for an Echo Shard. It can get you more turrets for the team fight or pushing purposes. If you feel like a paper in the fight, get Colossus and get more tanky.
McGinnis Situational/Flex Slot Items
Once your flex slots are unlocked, you must choose between the armor or more damage. If the game is going well and you are not getting targeted, get Diviner’s Kevlar and Boundless Spirit. In case the enemy is eyeing you first to shut down the utilities, get Improved Bullet Armor and Improved Spirit Armor right away. You can also boost your turrets and ultimate further with Escalating Exposure.
If the enemy team has Vindicta or Grey Talon, it can be hard for your turret to reach them. In such a scenario, get Improved Reach. If the enemy team has a lot of stun or slow, get Unstoppable to improve sustain.

All McGinnis Abilities
McGinnis Ability Point Order
The goal is the same if you are playing McGinnis for the first time or the tenth. You have to keep your distance and let turrets do their magic. That is why you must first go to the max levels on the mini turrets. Ensure you get one point in the medicinal specter in between to amp up the fire rate of units in the healing region.
Once the turret is maxed out, level up the healing and wall to have more utility advantage in team fights or objective taking. However, if your team has great ultimate like Dyanmo or Lash, you can combine your ultimate with them. In such cases, level up your ultimate before the wall.
