Gta To Run At 30 Fps On Consoles Claims Former Rockstar Developer
The information comes from Mike York, a Rockstar employee who used to work as an animator in the company. York has previously worked on the company’s most successful titles, including Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA 5. Speaking on an episode of a now-removed Kiwi Talkz podcast, Mike said that he’s not confident about Rockstar’s ability to run GTA 6 on 30 FPS.
“I don’t know if they’ll be able to pull off 60 FPS,” said Mike when asked about the upcoming game. Instead, the former Rockstar animator believes that GTA 6 will be locked at 30 FPS on consoles. There could be many reasons for this, but the most common one is, of course, to ensure the game runs at a stable frame rate.
Mike went on to clarify that the FPS for GTA 6 might increase with future patches but will most likely be launched at this nerfed rate. Furthermore, he did mention that the new PS5 Pro might be able to run the game at 60 FPS but that too remains to be seen.
While York seems convinced that GTA 6 will be locked to 30 frames, we sure hope that’s not the case. The 2025 gaming industry practically demands that most games run at 60 FPS at launch with options to reduce it from the gamer’s side. However, it does make sense for the game to slow down a bit due to GTA 6’s insane graphical fidelity.
