How Old Is Bonney In One Piece Answered
What is Bonney’s Real Age in One Piece?
Jewelry Bonney was introduced as one of the supernovas in the Saboady Archipelago arc. She was also a part of the worst generation of pirates. So, naturally, fans had high expectations for her character in the show. However, Oda only brought her back a few times, giving fans glimpses of her here and there in the One Piece world all these years. It wasn’t until the Egghead arc that the author let Bonney’s character shine.
No one expected, Bonney to be the daughter of Bartholomew Kuma. From then on, fans have always wanted to learn about the story of these two characters.
Based on her appearance during the debut, fans always thought of Bonney to be around 22-24 years of age. But looks can be deceiving, so the argument about her real age continued. Dr. Vegapunk who was connected to both Kuma and Bonney referred to her as a kid numerous times. This began to bug the fans and made them scratch their heads even more.
As you might be aware, Bonney consumed the Toshi Toshi no Mi (Age-Age Fruit) devil fruit, so, the chances are high that she altered her age. This was confirmed to be true in the Egghead arc. Bonney has been putting on an adult’s face all this time despite being a kid.
Yes, in Chapter 1098 of the One Piece manga, Bonney is officially revealed to be a 12-year-old in the story. This means she was only 10 before the time skip when we saw her on Sabody in One Piece. To remind you, I’m talking about the time when Bonney saved Zoro from slaying a Celestial Dragon. She was indeed in her true form, reflecting her true age as a kid, back then. All these years fans have been mistaking Bonney for an adult, but Oda revealed her real age indirectly by depicting her tragic backstory.
Jewelry Bonney’s Backstory in One Piece
The most disheartening backstory in One Piece now belongs to Kuma, and it is guaranteed to have you in tears. His past is eventually unraveled when Bonney accessed Kuma’s lifetime memory at Egghead Island. In the extended flashback, we learned who was Bonney’s mother, i.e. Ginny. Ginny loved Kuma to the moon and back after they met in the God Valley. However, the two didn’t end up married together right away as Kuma refused her proposal due to his past trauma.
Unfortunately, during their time in the Revolutionary Army, Ginny was kidnapped and forced to tie the knot to a Celestial Dragon. She was assaulted and left to die around 12 years ago from the current events in the story. One of the Five Elders in One Piece, St Saturn experimented on her, which led to Bonney getting the power of Toshi Toshi no Mi and the deadly sapphire stone disease.
Bonney was born into this world around this time in the story. She was adopted by Kuma right after Ginny’s unfortunate death. Kuma raised her and sacrificed his body to the World Government to devise a cure for sapphire stone disease. That is the tragic story of how Bonney received her devil fruit powers. She became a pirate when she was a kid to reunite with her father, Kuma. All this time she used her powers to mask her true appearance and tricked the fans.
After everything they have been through, Kuma and Bonney are currently at peace on Elbaf Island with the Straw Hats. Let’s see how their story continues going forward in One Piece. That said, what do you think about the achievements of young Bonney in One Piece? Let us know in the comments below.
