One Piece Bonney S Devil Fruit Powers And Abilities Explained
Bonney’s Toshi Toshi no Mi Devil Fruit Explained
Since Jewelry Bonney’s Nika transformation, many people began to confuse Bonney with having a different devil fruit. But it has always been Toshi Toshi no Mi (Age-Age) devil fruit in One Piece.
With the powers of the Age-Age fruit, Bonney can easily change her age, the age of other human beings, and even objects at will. That was how Bonney was tricking the audience by posing as a much older character, you can learn more about how old Bonney is here.
However, the effects of Bonney’s devil fruit powers are only temporary and not permanent. For example – she transformed Luffy and Chopper into their older age versions during the start of the Egghead arc.
Moreover, this devil fruit’s greatest ability is Distortion Future, which made it one of the most broken devil fruit powers in One Piece. This allows Bonney to change into any form that could exist in the future (alternate realities). So, yeah, Bonney could mimic many different devil fruit powers using her Age-Age fruit. If it sounds so confusing, let me give you an example.
In one instance, Bonney used her ability to transform into a giant against St, Ethanbaron Nusjuro while in another instance we saw her turn into a child to save Zoro during the Saboady arc (one of the best One Piece arcs). Like the rest of her powers, she can pull off this ability only for a certain period.
Origin of Bonney’s Devil Fruit Powers
Bonney didn’t get the age-manipulating powers as a result of her willingly eating the Toshi Toshi no Mi devil fruit at some point. There was rather a dark history behind the origin of Bonne’s devil fruit power. Should you be unaware, Bonney’s mother, Ginny, was kidnapped by a Celestial Dragon and gave birth to Bonney at the Mary Geoise. During this time, the ruthless St. Saturn, one of the former Gorosei, wanted to satiate his curiosity about whether a baby could get devil fruit powers.
Therefore, when Bonney was a newborn baby, Saturn conducted his experiment by extracting the Toshi Toshi no Mi powers and serving them to Bonney. That was how Bonney unlocked her devil fruit powers in the story. In the end, Saturn’s twisted experiment ended up coming back to haunt him as Bonney was able to transform into Nika.
Bonney’s Nika Powers Explained
Now that you have learned about Bonney’s powers, let’s have a look at how she transformed into Nika just like Luffy. Bonney morphed into different forms such as a giant-like future for example. Since Bonney has never seen Nika before, she only imagined him according to the description shared by her father.
Now that Bonney has seen Nika’s true form, i.e. Luffy in his Gear 5 form, she conjured the image of a complete version of Nika. During the fight against the Five Elders in One Piece, Luffy encouraged Bonney to use her power to the fullest to become the freest version of herself. Thus, when she gave it a shot, she asked for a future where she was completely free i.e., a Nika-like future.
This resulted in Bonney unlocking Gear 5 (as this ability is the peak of freedom) and achieving the Nika form similar to Luffy. The One Piece fandom coined a new nickname for Bonney, Joy Girl, in the event of this transformation.
Indeed, Bonney’s devil fruit is pretty overpowered in One Piece right now. However, there is a big limitation that the fans forget often, these transformations only last temporarily. The fandom has split into two sides once again with the new Gear 5. I believe this is a perfect move from Oda sensei to make Bonney’s journey come full circle and stand up against St. Saturn who has been ruining her family’s life for a long time.
