Who Is Colon In One Piece Explained
Who is the Giant Kid, Colon, in One Piece?
If you didn’t already know, Colon made his debut in the Egghead arc when Shanks was seen chilling on Elbaf island before his battle against Kid, which is one of my favorite One Piece episodes in 2024. The parallel between kid Luffy and Colon is unmissable as the latter is also shown to be a great admirer of Shanks. Colon desperately wanted to join the Red Hair Pirates, just like how Luffy did back in the Romance Dawn arc.
From then on, we knew Colon would shape up to be a crucial character in the Elbaf arc and the latest manga chapters have started to bring him into the spotlight. Recently, Colon is confirmed to be half giant and half human in the story because he is the son of Scopper Gaban, ex-Roger Pirate, and Ripley, the new giant Biology teacher. Although he has the appearance of a kid, Colon is 20 years old in the story now which makes him older than our hero Luffy.
Colon Was Inspired By Vicky the Viking
Not only Colon’s character but the entire world of One Piece has been primarily inspired by the animated series, Vicky the Viking. It was the series that the creator Eiichiro Oda grew up with and made him interested in pirates. It then led to the birth of his pirate manga and Oda has started to incorporate the elements of his favorite show into the Elbaf arc.
Vicky, the protagonist of the animated series heavily inspired Colon’s character design in One Piece He always relied on his wits rather than violence when it came to resolving conflicts in the animated show. However, Oda has chosen Colon to be the polar opposite of Vicky.
While the new generation of Giants hates violence, Colon is dead set on becoming a brave warrior of Elbaf. His father was a reputed pirate and his mother was a warrior of the Giant Pirates, thus, there is no doubt that Colon is also destined for greatness.
Shanks asked Colon to watch out for Luffy and now they have crossed paths in the story. With a new threat (Shank’s twin) looming in Elbaf, it is going to be interesting to see how Colon steps up to help the Straw Hats. That said, what do you think about the new giant Colon?
